For this club, Davie has chosen three short films that deal with interculturalism and are all made by Chinese artists. One is a musician, one a writer, and the other a true groundbreaker as the first woman to have directed a full-length feature film for Pixar. Among these films is a multiple award -winner, a piece that pissed off a lot of people, and one that spins a sci-fi tale mixing East and West in wonderful ways. Each one brings about a different point of view and piece of art that will touch you and make you think.
What's it like as Eastern and Western cultures continue to mix? What's it like in marriage? In business? In leadership? How does the average Chinese person see the average Westerner and vice versa? What are the things we say out loud and the things we keep to ourselves? How is art, as a medium of communication able to speak so much more loudly, boldly and articulately than the average person?
Let's sit back with good friends in comfy chairs as we sip on stiff cocktails, eat tasty popcorn, and watch three short films that will surprise, entertain, and touch you. And, of course, let's have a deep, intelligent and fun discussion about out mutual cinematic journey!
